Practising black and white

I spent a week in Cambridge recently and I thought I'd put my time to good use and practice taking black and white photo's. They were shot in colour in RAW and then converted, as I've seen suggested on various photography blogs. I tried to 'see' the shots in black and white before hand, and then figure out why certain things worked out and why others didn't. I love black and white. I find when the eye isn't distracted by colours, so much shines through. On people it's often the expression and emotion. In landscapes it's shapes, textures and shadows.

Anyway, here are some of my favourite shots. Most of them include the family dog. I think she's the most photogenic member of the family.

    1. Thank you. It was your photo's of Prague that got me falling in love with black and white photography. Actually, with photography in general. I still need to work on my composition, although saying that, it's not easy to get it right with an impatient dog whose been on a long walk and just wants to go home!

I finally realised that I can download a free program from the Canon website. It doesn't have much editing capabilities, but it's alright for a beginner like me.
